Safety and Security Great Britain, or new rules for ENS declaration

Safety and Security Great Britain (S&S GB) is otherwise known as the Entry Summary Declaration (ENS), which will also be required for cargo imported into the UK from the European Union by 31 January 2025.

The obligation to complete the ENS declaration for imports into the UK from the European Union comes into effect on 31 January 2025. This means that carriers will have to provide UK Customs with more information about goods transported to the islands. Until now, such information was only required for UK exports.

Currently, the ENS declaration requires information such as:

  • Sender information: name, address, postcode, city, country, optional EU or GB EORI,
  • Receiver information: name, address, postcode, city, country, optional EU or GB EORI,
  • Optional HS code.

What will change?

From 31 January 2025, in addition to the fact that ENS will also apply to imports of goods into the UK, ENS declarations will additionally require:

  • Information on whether the cargo is dangerous,
  • UN number if the cargo is dangerous,
  • GB EORI number of the carrier or shipper.

Providing all the necessary information to ENS guarantees a ferry crossing to the British Isles. Without the necessary data, port border services will refuse the crossing.
