French Minister for Foreign Trade, Attractiveness and French Nationals Abroad, Olivier Becht and CEO of DFDS, Torben Carlsen met in order to discuss decarbonisation of the ferry traffic on the English Channel, which is one of the busiest shipping corridors in the world.

DFDS committed to invest in innovation and electrification of its fleet on the English Channel by 2030. Short distance between France and the UK makes crossings on the channel a perfect place to implement battery-powered ships.

The green transition of maritime transport relies on land infrastructure and power supply, as well as on the ships at the sea. Sea ports have to be equipped in recharging facilities, so the fleet electrification can be completed.

In 2020 DFDS launched a climate action plan. One of its objectives is reducing CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030. Implementation of electric ferries on the English Channel by 2030 will be an important milestone in achieving the goal of emission reduction.
