The two companies have signed a charter agreement that expands the Baltic Sea ferry network and increases the flexibility and availability of services for freight and passenger customers.
Under the agreement, from October 1, 2025, for freight and passenger services on the route to Karlshamn and from November 1, 2025, for passengers traveling to Trelleborg, TT-Line and DFDS will jointly operate three routes from Klaipėda:
- to Karlshamn – up to 18 sailings per week
- to Trelleborg – up to 5 sailings per week
- to Travemünde – up to 8 sailings per week (including a new midweek sailing; freight-only).
The agreement covers all departures on the Klaipėda-Karlshamn route, on which both operators currently offer sailings. In addition, the agreement means that DFDS will now offer transport on new routes: Klaipėda-Trelleborg for both passengers and freight, and Klaipėda-Travemünde for freight only.
DFDS currently operates two freight-passenger ferries on the Karlshamn-Klaipėda route and four other vessels operating on Baltic routes, including those between Germany and Sweden, Sweden and Estonia, and Denmark and Lithuania.
As part of the cooperation, TT-Line will deploy its modern, environmentally friendly Green Ship Nils Holgersson, powered by LNG. This vessel offers the largest payload and the lowest carbon footprint per unit of cargo transported in the Baltic Sea.
Environmental benefits of LNG include:
- up to 60% less CO₂ emissions compared to traditional MGO fuel;
- 93% reduction in particulate matter emissions, significantly improving air quality;
- 98% less sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions and 82% less nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions without the need for complex exhaust gas cleaning systems.
Capacity sharing will allow both operators to offer improved service frequency and availability, while maintaining full control over each company's commercial operations. Customers – both passengers and carriers – will be able to book all connections to and from Klaipėda, regardless of which operator is actually operating the sailing.
Tickets for all departures available under this partnership will be available for purchase on PROMY24.COM.
