Ferry to Malta: fleet

The Virtu Ferries fleet consists of fast passenger and cargo catamarans. The route between Malta and Sicily is operated by two vessels, M/V Saint John Paul II and M/V Jean De La Vallette.

M/V Saint John Paul II is a catamaran that was built in 2018 in Australian shipyard in Tasmania. The vessel has been awarded a couple of times for its innovative solutions. The ferry can accommodate 900 passengers and 167 passenger vehicles, which corresponds to 490 meters of load line or 23 trucks. The maximum speed of the vessel is 38 knots, which is about 70,4 kilometres per hour.

The second vessel operating on Valetta – Pozzallo rotue is M/V Jean De La Valette. It is a catamaran built in the Australian shipyard in 2010. The ferry can take 900 passengers. The load line is 324 meters long, which allows the vessel to fit 156 passenger cars or 20 heavy goods vehicles. M/V Jean De La Valette has the same maximum speed as M/V Saint John Paul II.
