Due to renovation works and safty training Mont Blanc tunnel is going to be closed on following days in May 2024:

  • 13 to 14 May from 19:00 to 07:30 (12 hours 30 minutes),

UPDATE 02/04/24

From April to June, the Mont Blanc Tunnel is going on with the road deck’s renovation works.

This activity require:
- 5 midweek night closures lasting 10 hours and 30 minutes each 
(from 7.30 p.m. to 6.00 a.m.);
- 27 midweek night closures lasting 12 hours and 30 minutes each (from 7.00 p.m. to 7.30 a.m.);
- 1 extended closure of 30 hours and 30 minutes, starting at 11.30 p.m. on 19 June 2024.

In April 2024 Mont Blanc Tunnel will be completely closed to traffic according to the following schedule:

  • 4 to 5 April 2024 from 19:00-06:00 (11 hours),
  • 8 to 9 April 2024 from 19:30-06:00 (10 hours 30 minutes),
  • 9 to 10 April 2024 from 19:30-06:00 (10 hours 30 minutes),
  • 10 to 11 April 2024 from 19:00-07:30 (12 hours 30 minutes),
  • 11 to 12 April 2024 from 19:00-07:30 (12 hours 30 minutes),

The operator of the Mont Blanc Tunnel reported that works resulting in alternating traffic in the tunnel planned on:

  • 18 to 19 March 2024 from 22:30-06:00 (7 hours 30 minutes),
  • 19 to 20 March 2024 from 22:30-06:00 (7 hours 30 minutes),
  • 20 to 21 March 2024 from 22:30-06:00 (7 hours 30 minutes).

have been cancelled. Therefore, during the indicated periods, traffic will flow continuously in both directions.

In March 2024 Mont Blanc Tunnel will be completely closed to traffic according to the following schedule:

  • 11 to 12 March 2024 from 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 12 to 13 March 2024 from 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 13 to 14 March 2024 from 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 14 to 15 March 2024 from 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 21 to 22 March 2024 from 23:00-04:00 (5 hours).

In addition, during the night hours, alternating traffic will be used along the entire length of the tunnel to enable safety improvement works to be carried out on the following dates:

UPDATE 14/12/23

Mont Blanc tunnel operator informed that after 9 weeks of technical maintance works the tunnel will reopen on 15th December at 16:00. Originally reopening was scheduled for 18th December.

On 18th of December at 17:00, the annual safety exercise with Italian and French services will take place. Due to the excercise traffic disruption will be necessary from 17:00 to 22:00.

Referring to the previous information, in October 2023 the Mont Blanc Tunnel will be completely closed for traffic according to the following schedule:

  • 2 to 3 October between 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 3 to 4 October between 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 4 to 5 October between 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 5 to 6 October between 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 9 to 10 October between 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 10 to 11 October between 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 11 to 12 October between 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 12 to 13 October between 22:00-06:00 (8 hours).

Please note:

In order to allow technical maintenance work to be carried out on the tunnel, the Mont Blanc Tunnel will be totally closed for a period of 9 consecutive weeks, starting on Monday 16 October, 8 a.m.
Re-opening to traffic is planned by Monday 18 December 2023, 10 p.m.

UPDATE 19/09/23

We would like to inform you that as of Monday 18 September 2023, total interruptions of traffic have been planned in Mont Blanc Tunnel during the week (Monday to Thursday), at night (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.). These interruptions will last until further notice.

Thereafter, the tunnel will be totally closed for an estimated duration of 7 weeks.
The exact planning of this total closure is currently being finalised by the TMB-GEIE technicians and 
the contractors in charge of the works.

The exact dates of this closure will be communicated and published as soon as possible.

Referring to the above, in September 2023 the Mont Blanc Tunnel will be completely closed for traffic according to the following schedule:

  • 19 to 20 September between 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 20 to 21 September between 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 21 to 22 September between 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 25 to 26 September between 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
  • 26 to 27 September between 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),

UPDATE 11/09/23

The Mont Blanc Tunnel, in alignment with the Intergovernmental Commission's decision, has canceled this year's closures and rescheduled the maintenance work for the upcoming year. Advanced notice of the closure dates for the following year will be provided to ensure that all customers can adequately plan their activities.


UPDATE 01/09/23

The governments of Italy and France have reached an agreement to postpone the scheduled maintenance closure of the Mont Blanc Tunnel, originally planned for September 4th. The closure of the Mont Blanc Tunnel has been postponed, likely by a year, to September 2024.


UPDATE 17/08/23

Mont Blanc tunnel is going to be closed for traffic for 15 weeks, from 17:00 on 4 September 2023 to 22:00 on 18 December 2023.

The tunnel will undertake deep renovation on its structure. Tunnel operator recommends alternative routes, which are presented on the map below.

UPDATE 30/03/23

From mid-April to mid-June, and from the beginning of September to mid-December 2023, the Mont Blanc Tunnel will be going on with two major projects: the road deck’s renovation works and the complete reconstruction of two portions of the tunnel vault of 300 metres each. 
 
These activities will require:
 - 25 midweek night closures between 17 April and 13 June 2023, from 7.30 p.m. to 6.00 a.m.,
 - 1 extended closure of 30 hours and 30 minutes, starting at 11.30 p.m. on 14 June 2023,
 - 1 closure of 15 weeks, from Monday 4 September at 5 p.m. to Monday 18 December 2023 at 10 p.m.
 
In April 2023 the Mont Blanc Tunnel will be completely closed to traffic according to the following schedule:
 
  • 3 to 4 April 2023 from 19:00-22:00 (3 hours),
  • 11 to 12 April 2023 from 22:00-06:00 (8 hours),
