If you want to book a ferry for trailer only, it has to be done early enough, so the place is secured.

There are five different ferry operators which have Poland – Sweden service: Unity Line, Polferries, TT-Line, Stena Line and Finnlines. They offer five different routes:

-> Świnoujście – Ystad,
-> Świnoujście – Trelleborg,
-> Gdańsk – Nynäshamn,
-> Gdynia – Karlskrona,
-> Świnoujście – Malmö.

Booking a crossing for trailer on any from the above may require you to deliver information like:

-> Trailer’s registration number,
-> Trailer dimensions,
-> Name, surname and ID of a driver sending the trailer,
-> Name, surname and ID of a driver picking up the trailer.

It is good to know that the sooner you place an order for crossing, the better are chances for confirmation of space on the ferry. There is a time limitation in case of Unity Line. The operator processes freight booking requests no sooner than 10 days before the departure.

Transport units without drivers shall be prepared for ferry crossing earlier than vehicles with drivers. Trailers need to be loaded and later unloaded by the port staff.

As an example, Unity Line requires drivers to check-in two hours before a departure, but trailers has to be at the check-in office three hours before the ferry leaves.

Check-in time for trailers only should be verified with each booking request.

A way of briefing may differ between ferry operators and ports they sail from and to. In the majority of cases trailer is loaded by the port staff. This service is charged extra, but it is usually included in a freight ticket.

Driver leaves his vehicle on the outside parking lot and heads to the check-in office. Driver is obliged to fill in an export form. The port staff shows a spot where driver can leave the trailer and then he can leave the terminal.

When you send or pick up your trailer, TIN reference given by operator is necessary.

Driver checks-in with trailer in the operator’s office, where he is given a ticket and TIN number. Next driver can head to terminal gate with clear instructions where the trailer can be left on the parking lot.

Stena Line, the operator of Gdynia – Karlskrona route, has service of loading and unloading trailers on ferries. If the service is at the port of Gdynia, it should be booked in advance, because of the port’s staff mandatory assistance.

Driver heading to port for trailer pick up must present pick up information, which is provided by a person who sent a trailer. Sometimes a name of person that picks up the unaccompanied unit is enough information.

Pick up procedure for trailers in the port of Świnoujście (TT-Line)

Driver that comes to pick up a trailer must have TIN number which person sending the unit provides. TIN must be presented to terminal’s staff. Next driver is given a form to fill in. After that the trailer can leave the terminal.

Pick up procedure for trailers in to port of Trelleborg (TT-Line)

Person picking up a trailer in the port of Trelleborg must input TIN number in the photogate to reveal the trailer parking space. After that driver may leave the port with trailer.

Parking for unaccompanied units

Each port should have parking for unaccompanied units waiting for shipping or pick up. Parking is paid extra, but usually there is some time out of charge offered by ferry providers and it is different for each port.
