From 1st of January 2024, all ferry companies operating within the European Union will be subject to ETS fees resulting from the EU Emissions Trading System. ETS surcharges have significant impact on the cost of ferry crossings and they are added to the ticket price together with the BAF fuel fee.
More details about ETS surcharges can be found HERE.
The European Union established that charges for emissions in 2024 must be covered in 40%. From 1st of January 2025 the fee must be covered in 70%. As a result, crossing prices for ferry customers will increase.
Operator Stena Line presented “shadow ETS”. It is ETS surcharge for October 2024, but with 2025 rules of charging the fee.
